A Message from Mrs. Ormsbee

Greetings Herbison Woods Families!

It is hard to believe we are already at the end of our first trimester!  Students have been working hard to make academic growth, while focusing on being respectful, responsible and safe in all areas of the school.  Thank you to all of the parents/guardians who came to our conferences this past week.  It was great to meet with you and share your child's academic growth and successes.

As I reflect on my first couple of months in the DeWitt Public Schools, I am truly thankful to be a part of such an amazing community and team.  I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your child.  I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Sincerely,

Alicia Ormsbee

Principal

A Note from Mrs. Nowak

Herbison Woods Families,

November is off to a great start! Classrooms are continuing to cash in on Panther Paw rewards and taking part in a variety of behavior lessons that are helping them to understand how to be their best selves at Herbison Woods.

If you are looking for a conversation starter with your child to learn more about their day at HWE, try asking, "What is something that you are proud of for doing today?" Or, "What's a time you felt challenged today?" By asking questions that can't be answered by a yes or no, it opens up a conversation. Also, try not to give advice when your child shares their struggles! Be a listening ear for your child and you might see them open up even more. Even though we have life experience to give, just listening to your child can be the best solution.

In Partnership,

Rachel Nowak

Updates from Mr. Rogers

Hello HWE families,

As Thanksgiving approaches, we have so much to be grateful for at Herbison Woods. SEL lessons have continued in each classroom and students throughout our building have been receiving the support they need. We are blessed to have a team full of dedicated, hard-working, and skilled staff who genuinely care about each student at HWE. This is a wonderful place to learn!

Color Run Fundraiser

Thank you to all who donated and came out to support our Color Run!  It was a successful event.  We surpassed our goal, and raised over $17,000 to support field trips, assemblies, technology, classroom enrichment, and much more. A special thank you to West Orthodontics for their generous donation to the event!

Veterans Day Assembly

Students and staff participated in our first annual Veterans Day assembly on Monday, November 13. We were honored to celebrate and learn with several of our community veterans.

Thank you PTA!

Thank you to the DeWitt Elementary PTA for providing Herbison Woods staff with the Conference Cuisine during both conference nights this past week!  We appreciate all of their efforts to provide our staff with dinner on such busy evenings!  Thank you for all you do to support our students and staff!

P. E. Corner

In Physical Education, students just finished with their first "sport-specific" unit of Flag Football!  Students focused on the physical literacy skills of throwing, catching, agility, and defending.  With the upcoming winter season, please help students remember athletic shoes if they wear boots to school.  Proper footwear will decrease the possibility of injury and increase fitness levels.  As always, I am willing to store shoes in my locked equipment room if students need a place to keep their shoes.

Previous Unit of Study: Flag Football

Current Unit of Study: Cardio and Calisthenic Workouts

Next Up: Bowling
