A Message from Mrs. Ormsbee
Greetings Herbison Woods Families!
We are winding down on our fall benchmark testing. We will be wrapping up with our NWEA make up tests this coming week. Students were sent home with letters today containing their Acadience data, and information on the interventions that will be provided this fall. These are not graded assessments. Information from these benchmarks help us to guide our instruction and interventions that we provide for students. Along with fall Acadience data, students will be bringing home their MSTEP parent reports from the end of last school year. Please be looking for this information in your child's folder.
We continue to practice our school-wide expectations as the year progresses:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Safe
We review expectations in each area of the building. Students have the opportunity to earn Herbie Bucks individually and Panther Paws as a class. They will be utilizing these towards several different incentives offered throughout the school year.
Please feel free to reach out to myself or your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to continuing to work with you and your child this year.
Sincerely,
Alicia Ormsbee
Principal

Music Notes from Ms. Broughton
At HWE, students learn recorder as a part of their general music class. We will start recorders in October and ask for your support in making this happen! Recorders can be purchased with a donation of $5, either with cash, check made payable to Herbison Woods School, or online through the following link: https://dewittschools.revtrak.net/herbison-woods-elementary/#/list. 4th grade families...look for a flyer coming home with more details. 5th grade families...your child hopefully already has one from last year. All students who need a recorder will receive one.

DHS Football Games
Please follow these guidelines to help make high school football games safe and enjoyable for all who attend.
DeWitt students must remain on our side of the stadium.
Students must leave all footballs, balls, flying objects (ie. frisbees, etc.) at home. Playing catch, games, etc. is not acceptable with so many spectators in the stadium and causes safety risks and distractions to those who paid to watch the event.
It is an expectation that elementary students are chaperoned. The concourse (common area between the stands and concessions) is not a play space. Elementary aged students must be accompanied by their adult and not be left unsupervised to play or congregate inside or outside of the stadium.
Homecoming Spirit Week at Herbison Woods
Spirit Days are scheduled for September 25-29. See the schedule if your child is interested in participating. The Homecoming football game is scheduled for Friday, September 29.

Federal & State Funding Help: DeWitt Public School District is excited to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students starting this new school year thanks to the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program! Even though meals will be provided for free, it's important for families to continue sharing household income information in order for our schools to receive full access to federal and state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.
