A Message from Mrs. Ormsbee

Greetings Herbison Woods Families!

The energy and excitement in the building the past week has been incredible.   This is always such a fun time of the year.  With winter break beginning, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!  Take the time to relax, reset, and make memories with your loved ones.

Shortly after we return in January, we will be jumping into our NWEA and Acadience benchmark assessments.  We will notify you of the specific dates upon our return.  It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with your child.  Thank you for your partnership in their education!

Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season,

Alicia Ormsbee

Principal

A Note from Mrs. Nowak

HWE Families,

I wish you a wonderful time to reset with your families and take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle of life. When your HWE kid returns in January, they will get a chance to review our behavior expectations and have a fresh start to the new year. We will also be kicking off a new incentive for classrooms to earn Panther Paw awards. It will be an exciting time at HWE and there is a lot to look forward to in 2024!

In Partnership,

Rachel Nowak

Updates from Mr. Rogers

Hello, HWE family and friends!

I just returned from a two week paternity leave, as my Wife and I welcomed our sweet little daughter into the world! As you can imagine, there's been lots of diaper changes, baby snuggles, and missed sleep in the Rogers household.  After we return from break, we'll be starting small group lessons for students who would benefit from learning some specific interpersonal skills. As always, it is great to be a HWE Panther!

An Update from our DeWitt PTA:

Guess What? Our PTA has recently earned a STEM grant from the National Parent Teacher Association. This funding will allow us to implement a STEM + Families Propelling Our World Program. We’re thrilled to have been chosen and can’t wait to plan activities that engage, inspire and support OUR elementary families and community. Over the coming months we will share more information about plans for this program.

Federal & State Funding Help:  DeWitt Public School District is excited to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students starting this new school year thanks to the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program! Even though meals will be provided for free, it's important for families to continue sharing household income information in order for our schools to receive full access to federal and state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.  Paper applications are available upon request.  Please contact Sandy Leach at leachsand@dewittschools.net or Marcy Updike at updikemar@dewittschools.netOnline applications can be completed at:  https://dewitt.familyportal.cloud.
