A Message from Mrs. Ormsbee

Greetings Herbison Woods Families!

Happy New Year!  We are excited to be back for the second half of our school year!  Students have been getting back into routines, working on reviewing our school and classroom expectations, and taking our winter benchmark assessments.

This past week has proven that the winter weather is upon us!  Students will be going outside for recess when temperatures are above zero degrees.  Please help to remind your child to bring proper outdoor gear for these cold temperatures.

Families received an email earlier this week with our annual perception survey. Please take a moment to complete the survey and provide your input. Your feedback is important to us!  This will help us to continue to improve serving our students and families.  The survey will be open through Monday, January 29.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Alicia Ormsbee

Principal

A Note from Mrs. Nowak

HWE Families,

Our year continues to move in a positive direction, as we have kicked off a behavior incentive for grade levels! Each grade level is working to construct a "snowman" by earning Panther Paws. For every 25 Panther Paws, a part of the snow man will be put on display. If a grade level "builds" a complete snowman by the end of February, they will earn an interactive and engaging assembly. Check in with your HWE student on how many Panther Paws their class has earned! Classes can earn Panther Paws by displaying respectful, responsible and safe behavior in all areas of the school. Thank you for always supporting our building and positive student behavior!

In Partnership,

Rachel Nowak

Updates from Mr. Rogers

Hello, HWE parents and families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break, with plenty of time to celebrate with loved ones. We've had a wonderful week welcoming our students back at HWE; it's been fun to see kiddos in our building again! We are continuing SEL lessons and plan to start small groups to work on specific skills (emotional regulation, social skills, etc.) later this month. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your student(s). Thank you for helping make HWE such an awesome place to learn and grow!

Federal & State Funding Help:  DeWitt Public School District is excited to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students starting this new school year thanks to the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program! Even though meals will be provided for free, it's important for families to continue sharing household income information in order for our schools to receive full access to federal and state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.  Paper applications are available upon request.  Please contact Sandy Leach at leachsand@dewittschools.net or Marcy Updike at updikemar@dewittschools.netOnline applications can be completed at:  https://dewitt.familyportal.cloud.
