Greetings Herbison Woods Families,
This week is Staff Appreciation Week! We so grateful for the amazing staff we have here at Herbison Woods and in DeWitt Public Schools! Our PTA is hosting a fantastic week ahead. Please see below for information on our spirit week.
The weather will hopefully start warming up as May progresses. Please help your child to make decisions on their clothing in the morning that align with our district dress code. Students should avoid shorts shorts, exposed midriff, and halter style shirts. We appreciate your support with this!
The end of the year also brings many end of the year activities, including field trips and field day. Please watch the classroom newsletters for information on specific events.
The past few weeks have been busy with end of the year assessments. This week we will be wrapping up our MSTEP makeups and moving on to our NWEA testing. Our students have been amazing working through these and putting forth their best effort! I am so proud of all of their hard work!
Sincerely,
Alicia Ormsbee
Principal
HWE Families,
Next week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation week. As parents of elementary students, you know how challenging, yet rewarding parenting a child of this age can be. Our staff at HWE is dedicated, patient and motivated to make your child not only educated, but a better human.
Please ask your HWE student(s) to identify one staff member that has made a positive impact on them in their time at our school. It could be someone that works in the office, a paraprofessional, the custodian, or any teacher. Encourage your HWE student(s) to express that appreciation with words, or a short note. As a former classroom teacher, those words can keep you going on the toughest of days, or the toughest times of the school year (including right now!). It may also be helpful to debrief with your student on how they felt after lifting someone up with an affirmation. Most often, we feel better about ourselves when we look for and acknowledge all the good going on around us.
I am emmensly proud to be a part of the staff here at HWE and hope that you and your student(s) take a moment to thank those important adults in their lives here!
In Partnership,
Rachel Nowak
Our spring assessments have begun. Although these are not assessments that students can study for, there are ways to help them perform their best. Some helpful tips include:
Getting a good night sleep the night before testing day
Eating a healthy breakfast (remember, breakfast is available daily at school as well)
Attending school on time, on the day of an assessment (once a testing session has started in a classroom, a student arriving late will not be able to enter and test) Tests will begin promptly at 9:00 on testing days.
Giving their best effort during the test
Bringing headphones on testing day
4th Grade will test on:
Tuesday, May 5 - NWEA ELA
Tuesday, May 12 - NWEA Math
5th Grade will test on:
Thursday May 7 - NWEA ELA
Thursday, May 14 - NWEA Math
